The ghosts of the Parliament House Hotel

The White Lady

Seen: One area of the hotel

Former council employees who worked in the building before it was a hotel came back to ask staff whether anyone had seen the White Lady, a figure they said they had seen several times.

Seen: A guest room

A guest woke in the night as the room turned very cold, then noticed the delicate scent of fresh flowers.

Ghost stories and sightings

The White Lady

Before it became a hotel, the building was used as council offices. When the hotel opened, some guests reported unusual feelings in one particular area. Soon afterwards, former council employees came back to visit and asked the staff whether anyone had seen "the White Lady", a figure they said they had seen on several occasions while working there.

Cold and flowers

More recently, a guest told the hotel she woke in the night to find the room suddenly very cold, followed by the scent of fresh flowers, and believed a spirit had passed through.

These accounts come from the hotel itself. The hotel says plainly that they remain unexplained.

History of the Parliament House Hotel

The hotel occupies three townhouses more than 250 years old, later used as council offices. Next door, the Old Calton Burial Ground opened in 1718 and was split in two in 1816 when Waterloo Place was built through it; the smaller section is beside the hotel.
