The Ten Bells

The Spitalfields pub linked with the Jack the Ripper murders. Staff have reported feeling the presence of Annie Chapman, said to have drunk here, and of a Victorian landlord.

ReportedRepeated accounts, but without names or detail

The ghosts

  • Annie Chapman, the Ripper's second victim, whose presence staff say they have felt
  • A Victorian landlord said to haunt the upstairs rooms

History

The Grade II listed building dates from the mid-19th century, on the site of a pub founded much earlier. Inside the Commercial Street entrance is a large Victorian tiled panel of an old street scene. Tradition says Annie Chapman drank here shortly before her murder in 1888.
