Haunted pub in London

The Flask

An old Highgate village pub near Highgate Cemetery whose best-known ghost is a barmaid said to have hanged herself in the cellar.

LegendA traditional story with no first-hand accounts

The ghosts

  • A Spanish barmaid said to have hanged herself in the cellar, now a seating area, over her love for the landlord
  • A man in Cavalier dress, said to cross the bar and vanish into a pillar

History

The pub dates its stable block, the oldest part, to 1663 and the main building to the early 18th century. Historic England points out that a Cavalier ghost doesn't quite fit a building of that age.
